Words of wisdom

Things I want my children to know and remember.

•••Even though I am strict and bossy- I love you and want you all to be happy. But also disciplined enough to keep yourselves on a positive path to be successful.
•••Be confident! Be proud of all your talents and quirks that make you special. Please don't waste time trying to be someone else. Look in the mirror and love yourself!

•••Eating healthy has many benefits.

•••Each of you have a special place in your Dad's and my heart. You are each unique and we love that.

•••Never underestimate the power inside yourself. You have the capabilities to do more than you can imagine. Your only limitations are those you believe to be true.

•••Your never too old to hug and kiss your Mom and Dad.

•••True friends are rare, they don't pressure you to do things.

•••Vacations are a great way to bond and learn responsibilities.

•••I have loved your dad with everything in me since our first kiss in 1996.

•••This, too, shall pass. I have heard this and it rings true in so many situations.

•••Be kind to everyone!! Everyone is fighting their own battle. You never know what a person is dealing with or going through.  Always being kind, it could make a huge difference to one or more people.

•••Listening to you Dad, as he convinced me to have baby after baby, was the BEST decision I have ever made. I couldn't imagine my life with any less then 9 kids. I am THE luckiest Mom in the world.

•••No matter the choices you may make in life, I will ALWAYS be right here loving you through!

•••Pick your battles. Not everything is worth a fight. Even though I like being right, it isn't always the most important thing.

•••Saying no, isn't easy and we don't enjoy it.

•••Your siblings are your true friends and you should love them through all their choices and mistakes.

•••Having dinner together as a family is a very important to us. It's a great time to talk, share and have fun.

•••Getting old and being like your parents is inevitable. One day you will find yourself saying what they said, that you never thought you would.

•••Don't go to the park after dark. Please stay safe in all that you so because the re is only one you!

•••Chores are not punishment, they help you build character and it doesn't hurt for you to help out and learn responsibility.

•••Despite what you might believe, new shoes don't make you run faster or jumper higher.

•••EVERYTHING happens for a reason. And I mean everything!

•••I love you! NO MATTER WHAT!

Today's post is about my second oldest child/ oldest daughter.

Hannah writes...

I think Batman is amazing.
Artichokes are my favorite food.
My favorite color is blue/teal.
I have a 4.0 GPA.
I want to be a pediatrician.
I hate homework and I have too much.
I would probably die without my phone.
I love taking pictures and drawing.
I'm not having kids, kids are evil.
For Christmas, I want a German Shepard.
I never have any money (I'm broke).
I want a cast.
I probably need braces.
My church is -6 degrees Celsius.
I'm slightly insane but that's why everyone loves me.
I'm 13, the second oldest in my family.

Ever since Hannah was a baby, I have known she had something very special and unique about her.
If you have ever seen the movie Jerry Maguire Cuba Gooding Jr. uses the word 'Quan', That is the word I have decided to use to describe Hannah. She is a little of this great thing, and that great thing, mixed with more great things!
She is so smart she amazes me. She has a heart so big I cannot believe it fits in her chest. When she leaves my house to go to a friends house I feel like I am missing my arm. I always want her nearby. She makes me laugh, she keeps me grounded, and she helps me.
I know that she is going to move furthest from me and I feel like my heart will crumble the day that happens. Her independence at just 13, is amazing yet scary.
She is my Quan child.
My life is a much richer place because of you my sweet puff! I love you.

Any questions for Hannah?

Souvenirs of the heart

Pictures of the kids flood my phone, my computer, my Facebook, my Instagram. How about you?
But why are there so very few with me in them? As a matter of fact, when I creep my friends albums they are missing from most of their pics with children, WHY??
Why don't moms and dads join in the pics?

Maybe its because our hair is a mess, we don't have our make-up on (because why would I want to waste my make-up to sit around the house), I don't have time, this shirt isn't my color... blah blah blah

Our lives are so involved with the kids everyday- cooking, laundry, help with homework, fixing their hair, painting nails, cuddling, playing sports, riding bikes, playing games, tickling, reading, etc...
We have pics of them doing many of these things but we don't get in the picture!?

We need, they need, and their children need pictures of us TOGETHER!!!

I remember my mom laughing, tickling, making silly faces, playing Monopoly with me even though she didn't particularity like it, going to Sea World (there used to be Sea World in Ohio), going to Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus.  I remember her soft hands, leaning on her to watch a movie, doing crafts with her.  I remember wrapping my arms around her soft not perfect body for a hug and loving every bit of her!!!

I remember my dad always letting me sit on his lap, going to the Lamp Post, taking me for rides on his Harley. I remember that even though my parents were divorced they were great friends, that my dad always took me out for his favorite meal (liver and onions, "cuz it makes you grow hair on your chest"), we never parted ways without a hug and kiss, because your NEVER too old or too big for a hug and kiss. I remember he had the best hugs because his arms were so long that they wrapped all the way around me and I felt like I sunk into his chest, it felt so comfortable and safe I stayed just a little longer then other hugs!

Sadly, there are so few pictures of us together that most of those are my memories. So unless my children decide to share the stories I tell them, my memories will die when I do.

I want to change that pattern for my kids!
I will take pictures looking a hot mess because they don't mind how I look. They actually see a completely different version of me. And they will have photos to help them remember all that we do together one day.

We are so important to our kids, just as they are to us. If we LOVE taking pictures of them, doesn't it make sense that they would love pictures of us??
If I could, I would take 100's of pictures of my parents.

Please join me and make yourself a promise to jump into more pics with your kids so they have those memories and a souvenir to help them share the memory.
I challenge everyone to jump in more pics starting in 2013. Share this post, and invite your friends to join in the challenge as well!!
For all my fellow Instagram and Twitter users we have created a hashtag just for this challenge
